Writing about a topic without bringing attention to the author

How to write informative pieces without being in any way self-promotional may be difficult. Informative pieces are writings about something which one knows something and is therefore an authority to write of the same.

Now, keep in mind that the information piece should not be about the writer and therefore promotional. One concern for such a situation is that a collection of writings would be self-seeking, with little informative value taking root.

It makes sense. Why come to a website to read deliberate and educational pieces, only to read advertisements? For this, one might readily agree. Provide information only and leave the marketing and promotional pieces at home.

However, if one was involved with a site, let's say ebay, for example, would it be readily understood that there are many items that could be discussed within the writings, while at the end making reference to the fact that the item discussed was being auctioned on ebay? (Wow... long sentence!) It seems perfectly reasonable that ebay could create a writing about an item, and close by stating that the item was being auctioned on ebay.com.

Such information would not appear to be a promotion, direct, frontal assault, in your face, kind of advertisement.

And since the piece you are currently reading is more like an opinion piece (and less factual), I will conclude that if eRaffle.com is writing about an item that is on eRaffle.com, and then ends by referencing the fact that very same item is being eRaffled on eRaffle.com, that this would not be a self-promotion or an ad.

Now, you might question why I would write about this topic. Well, we are conscientious people, and we seek to inform. Secondly, we do not want to discredit the eRaffle name. And, if we write, and the reader is interested in the item, it makes sense to reference the fact that the item is being eRaffled for free.

This makes everyone a winner. The written piece, eRaffle, the topic of discussion and the person who may have read the the writing and subsequently received the winning ticket on eRaffle.com

By the way, there is nothing being eRaffled in association with this writing. Sorry.
